Care4All

Care4All is a local charity providing social care support and services for hundreds of vulnerable people in North East Lincolnshire.

One of Care4All’s services that is particularly popular with elderly and disabled residents is ‘meals on wheels’. However this vital service was recently under threat as the charity’s vehicles were old and kept breaking down.

Chief Executive Jo Barnes says the charity took on the funding of the meals on wheels service after the local authority could no longer afford it. She says it is very tough for charities to keep on funding these much-needed services. Having heard that the Garfield Weston Foundation supports capital costs, Jo decided to apply to the Foundation and was successful – receiving £25,000 towards the cost of new vehicles.

“We are now delivering over a 1,000 meals a week so that older people can stay in their own homes – often this is the only contact they have with people during the week. But this service was at risk because our vehicles were old and breaking down. As I looked for grants it became clear that funders wanted to fund the ‘popular’ projects and not something that was pretty unsexy, such as replacing old vans.

The practical approach that Garfield Weston took to our funding application and the way the application helped us tell our story made such a difference. Without their support we would have lost this much needed service, instead it has gone from strength to strength.” Jo Barnes, Chief Executive
